About

Hi. I'm Josh Perez.

📍 Previously: Albuquerque, NM

📍 Currently: Denver, CO

I am a multidisciplinary creative and academic who explores the intersection of humanity and artistry through filmmaking, audio, writing, and photography. After living in the southwest desert for seventeen years, I relocated to Denver, CO in 2021.

My academic journey reflects my diverse interests. I earned a B.A. in Psychology from the University of New Mexico in 2014 and a Master's in Theological Studies from the Iliff School of Theology in 2024. My master's thesis, "Laundry and Taxes: Cinema as Portals from Domination Into Worlds of Liberation," delves into my research interests in lived religion, film reception studies, and the connection between cinema and how one orients themselves in this world.

In my professional life, I serve as the Creative Lead for the Institute of Religion, Culture, and Politics at the Iliff School of Theology. I am also a freelance creator and storyteller, with a portfolio showcasing my work in podcasting, filmmaking, and photography. I write and podcast about movies at Sweet & Condensed, a newsletter and podcast for people who love people and movies.

I am a recipient of the JDP Scholarship (2024-Present), the Elizabeth Iliff Warren Fellowship (2024), and the DU Graduate Studies Doctoral Fellowship (2024-26).
